What Makes The Printer Offline Error Occur?

As per all the complaints and diagnoses the experts have come to the conclusion that one of the major reasons behind the printer going offline error is when the Windows 10 finds out that the printer is in offline mode. The Windows is unable to tell whether the printer is offline or it is encountering connectivity issues, printing errors, etc. Some of the common reasons which make this issue appear are:

  • A slow or unresponsive connection is established between the computer and the printer.
  • There are various unfinished or pending printing tasks lined up.
  • The printer is facing an internal issue that needs to be fixed.

How To Fix The Printer Offline Error In Windows 10?

Solution: Check if the Printer Settings are in Order

Whenever there is a glitch in your system, the first and easiest way to solve the issue is by restarting it. A lot of times a simple restart resolves the problems that seem to be big, within seconds. Hence, the first fix is to restart your printer machine and the computer system it is connected with, and you can also try to unplug the USB cable.

In case you are using a network, wired or a wireless printer then you should try restarting the router as the internet connection could also be the reason behind the error you are experiencing. Here we are mentioning some ways that will help you fix the printer offline error and also give you a clear picture about whether or not the printer has been fixed.

Steps to troubleshoot Printer Offline Error

  1. Step 1: In your computer system, go to the settings and then choose the option for “Control Panel”. Next, you have to select “Printers”.
  2. Step 2: Here you need to check and verify that the correct printer is selected in the default settings. For that, you have to click on the default printer and then select the “Print Queue” that will show you what is being printed.
  3. Step 3: In case you find out that there is a pending task then make sure to remove it from the list.
  4. Step 4: Then move to the “queue window” where you have to select “Printer” and then uncheck the box next to the option labeled as “use printer offline”.
  5. Step 5: In case the “use printer offline” option is turned off; you can check the box next to it and then wait for a few seconds before unchecking it.
  6. Step 6: In this step, you have to check and verify that the printer is well-connected to the computer system you are using. You can do it by unplugging the USB cable and then plugging it back in again.
  7. Step 7: If you are using a network printer then you can go ahead with the connection test by restarting the router.
  8. Step 8: Finally, you need to restart your printer and the computer system.

When you are done with the steps mentioned above, now is the time to check if the printer offline problem in your Windows 10 has been fixed or not.

Reinstall Drivers to get rid of Printer Offline Issue

To reinstall the printer drivers, all you have to do is follow the steps we have explained below:

Those who are using a wireless printer should try to connect it to its IP address. For doing so, you have to:

  • Open the control panel in your system.
  • Then, click the option that says “Devices and Printers”.
  • Make sure to right click on the tab that says “Printer”.
  • Next, click on “Properties”.
  • You will be able to locate a tab labeled “Web Services and General”. Look under this tab and there will be the IP address of your printer. You need to copy the IP address and then paste it on the address field of your browser.

Alternatively, you can choose to:

  • Open the CMD
  • Enter ping followed by the IP address of the printer
  • Press “Enter”

In case there is an error then it means that the printer’s connection is not working properly. You can contact any technical expert to resolve this issue.
